De Schildkamp offers hotel rooms, a restaurant, wellness, padel courts, bowling facilities, an art gallery and escape room. In addition, they house a spectacular indoor arboretum for a unique ‘indoor outdoor experience’.

We meet up with Rachel Klaare, Managing Director of De Schildkamp. Rachel is one of those people who wake up in the middle of the night with a brilliant idea. The ‘indoor outdoor experience’ is of her sleeve. It complements the core business of De Schildkamp, by offering inspirational facilities for team sessions. De Schildkamp sets its own unique course and lives up to their slogan ‘interordinarily special’.

All your IT from one single source

De Schildkamp team has been working with the solutions of Van Hessen for many years. But the cooperation wasn’t always optimum. When a new POS system needed to be installed, it was decided to work with another supplier. Initially the POS worked well, but over time it no longer lived up to the expectations.

‘Two years ago, we came into contact again,’ says Rachel. ‘The new aspirations of Van Hessen and possibilities of Oracle MICROS Simphony POS made me take a different stand. In particular the integration with Oracle Hospitality Suite8 was crucial for us. Besides, it’s ridiculous to have different POS and PMS suppliers, when one can house it all under one roof at Van Hessen.’

‘At the hospitality trade fair Gastvrij Rotterdam, I was given a demonstration by Ghislaine Robbers, Account Manager POS. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that Simphony offers everything I need’, Rachel explains. ‘It’s a cloud-based POS and the handhelds have a legible display, identical to the one on the main station. Decisive however, was the NFC technology. Guests hold their keycard against the scanner of the handheld or POS, and expenses are booked on their room number.’

For De Schildkamp, all pieces of the puzzle fell into place

‘We decided to work with Van Hessen again for both the PMS and POS system’, Rachel states. ‘Van Hessen has a close cooperation with SmartHOTEL our channel manager, and Adyen pay-at-table, supplying the payment terminals that integrate with our Exact accounting software. Our Hotek key system is connected to Simphony POS via NFC technology. With this NFC technique we rule out open items and issues on billing is a thing of the past. It works like a charm and offers our guest convenience, correct invoices and a swift check-out.’

De Schildkamp is located in the ‘Betuwe’, an area in the middle of the Netherlands where you can enjoy the many blossoming trees during springtime. ‘It’s a busy period but with Simphony POS we can work fast and efficient. The MICROS Simphony POS and Oracle Hospitality Suite8 PMS are fully integrated, making life much easier for our front office team. Support on Suite8 PMS is assured and with help of Van Hessen we linked all integrations and have our IT fully automated. It works perfectly’, Rachel tells.

No empty promises

‘Van Hessen gave us honest and transparent advice from the start. About what works and what doesn’t for our specific situation. Now that everything is installed, it turned out to be exactly what we needed. It’s a complete package, but not too extensive or overcomplicated’, says Rachel.

At Van Hessen they know our business by heart as most worked in hospitality before. A few weeks after installing the systems, Madelon Kelders, Account Manager PMS, visited us to evaluate how thing are running. Perfect timing as our team is now familiar with the system to provide solid feedback. Madelon is able to translate our ideas and wishes into practical instructions for Van Hessen’s technical departments. This works perfect for us and we appreciate the clarity and feedback. Not being sent from pillar to post, but having dedicated contacts at Van Hessen for an open and honest conversation. Even when things don’t go according to plan, it gets picked up.
