You have undoubtedly read in the press that a technical problem with a major producer of fiscal tills for the HORECA industry has been identified. A more correct description would have been that it has been determined that the storage capacity of some FDMs (Fiscal Data Module or 'black box') coming from a specific producer is too limited. This issue has been confirmed with the FDM type that is probably being used in most of the F&B outlets. That supplier is also the one Van Hessen selected for its fiscal deployment.
Because of an issue with the memory chip, the FDM cannot store the legally required 8 years of fiscal data. All data which have been stored on the device have been registered correctly. There is no incomplete or inconsistent data, but a limitation in the number of days for which the data can be stored.
The problem would not exist with all FDMs produced. But as the FDM is a sealed fiscal device, only the producer is authorized to remove the seal, and only he can determine whether a specific device does or does not have this limitation. We at Van Hessen can therefore thus impossibly determine whether the device(s) we have supplied you with are concerned.
We would like to remind you of the procedure you should follow in case your fiscal POS has a (any) malfunction, and as described on http://www.geregistreerdkassasysteem.be/nl/problemen/wat-te-doen-bij-elk-technisch-probleem (Dutch) and http://www.systemedecaisseenregistreuse.be/fr/entrepreneur/problemes/que-faire-en-cas-de-probleme-technique (French). You must have pre-printed VAT tickets available, which must be issued as a temporary replacement for the ticket normally generated by your fiscal till.
The producer has recently informed us of these findings and is obviously very annoyed with the issue. He has ensured us that he will spare no effort to rectify this and to minimize the impact for the restaurant entrepreneur. A device with the correct storage has in the meanwhile been approved by the government and production has started.
As soon as we receive a supply of these devices, we will start a roll-out campaign where we will replace all FDMs in use with our customers. There will be no charges involved for you. The original FDM contains fiscal data and you need to store this device.
